This chart contains approximate yields and is based on non-stretchy fabrics. All figures are based on piece goods of 10 yards or more.
This chart is valid for standard fabrics such as cotton, poly-cotton and non-stretch polyester. For satin fabric or very stretchy fabrics, subtract 10% from the yields in the chart.
Straight Binding Yield
(Width of fabric in inches minus 2″) divided by Size to be cut.
if the width of fabric is 58″ and the Size cut is 1 5/8″
Yield = (58-2)/1.625 = 34
Across Tubular Yield
(Tubular width of fabric in inches x 2) divided by Size to be cut
If the width of fabric is 30″ tubular and Size cut is 2 1/4″
Yield = (30×2)/2.25 = 26
Across Open Yield
Use the bias chart and subtract 10% from the given yield.
If the width of fabric is 60″ and Size cut is 1 1/8″
Bias yield according to bias chart is 49
Across Open yield is 49 minus 10% = 44
Use this chart to determine approximate size to be cut for other products.
